Possible Causes

Kinked or frozen drain hose, Clogged drain line flow control, Blocked drain port in Clearwater control valve, House drain standpipe blocked

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the inlet valve before disconnecting the drain line. Be prepared for water discharge.

  • Inspect drain hose: Follow the Clearwater drain hose from the valve to the drain. Straighten any kinks and ensure it slopes downward with no high loops that can trap air.
  • Check for freezing: In cold climates, verify the hose is not routed through unheated spaces where it can freeze. Thaw gently if frozen.
  • Clean flow control: At the valve drain port, remove the drain line flow control fitting. Rinse out sediment or iron buildup and ensure the orifice is clear.
  • Verify house drain: Make sure the standpipe or floor drain is not blocked. Pour water into it to confirm free flow.
  • Test regeneration: Reconnect everything, open the inlet, and run a manual regeneration. Watch for a strong flow to drain during backwash and rinse. E09 should clear.

If there is still no drain flow, the internal drain port of the Clearwater control valve may be obstructed or damaged and may require valve replacement.
