Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Regeneration involves moving parts and water under pressure. Do not open pressurized tanks. Unplug the unit before removing covers.
- Check bypass: Confirm the Clearwater bypass valve is fully in SERVICE, not partially in BYPASS.
- Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit on water before and after the softener. If both are similar, the softener is not exchanging hardness.
- Verify programming: Ensure hardness, capacity, and salt dose settings match your water conditions and Clearwater tank size.
- Inspect salt and brine draw: Confirm adequate salt in the brine tank and that brine level drops during regeneration.
- Resin condition: If the unit is older or exposed to iron, the resin may be fouled. Consider cleaning with a resin cleaner or replacing the Clearwater cation resin.
If hardness remains high after proper regeneration and settings, replace the Clearwater resin media.
