Possible Causes

Salt level below sensor, Salt bridging preventing salt from reaching water, Incorrect salt type causing poor dissolution

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Open the brine tank carefully; avoid breathing dust from pellet or rock salt.

Check and refill salt:

  • Visually inspect the salt level. If it is below the recommended level (usually above the water line and at least covering the grid plate if present), add high-purity solar or pellet water softener salt.
  • Do not overfill; leave several inches of space at the top of the tank.

Check for salt bridge:

  • Insert a broom handle into the salt bed and gently push down. If you feel a hard crust with empty space beneath, a salt bridge has formed.
  • Carefully break up the bridge and remove large chunks if necessary.

Reset warning:

  • After correcting the salt level, follow the controller instructions to clear the “Lo Salt” warning (often automatic after next regeneration).
  • Run a manual regeneration if the unit has been out of salt for an extended period.
