Possible Causes

Clogged inlet screen, Fouled resin bed, Partially closed bypass or shutoff valve, Plugged drain line causing incomplete backwash

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Depressurize the system before removing any screens or opening the valve.

Check valves:

  • Verify the bypass valve is fully in SERVICE.
  • Ensure upstream and downstream shutoff valves are fully open.

Inlet screen and prefilter:

  • Inspect and clean any inlet screen on the control valve.
  • Replace or clean any sediment prefilter cartridges upstream of the softener.

Resin condition:

  • If iron or sediment has fouled the resin, perform a resin cleaning with an approved cleaner.
  • Run a manual regeneration and recheck flow.

Resolution: If flow remains low, the resin bed may be severely fouled or the internal distributor may be blocked, requiring resin replacement and inspection of the distributor tube and screens.
