Possible Causes
Excessive backwash flow disturbing resin and fines, Iron fouling breaking loose, Dirty well water during backwash, Cracked distributor tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Run water to a drain or outside hose until clear before using for drinking. Wear gloves if handling resin or iron sludge.
- Flush system: After regeneration, run cold water at a bathtub or outside spigot until water clears.
- Check backwash rate: Verify the correct backwash flow control is installed for your tank size. Replace with the proper Pentair backwash flow control if oversized.
- Iron treatment: If on well water with high iron, consider pre-treatment (iron filter) or periodic resin cleaning with an iron-removal product.
- Distributor tube: If resin beads are found in faucets, the internal distributor tube or bottom screen may be cracked and the Pentair distributor tube assembly should be replaced.
