Possible Causes
Stuck brine refill valve in Pentair control head, Clogged refill flow control, Failed brine solenoid (on electronic valves with separate solenoid), Control board output failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off water and disconnect power. Depressurize the system before opening the valve body.
- Inspect brine valve: Remove the brine valve assembly from the Pentair control valve (usually on the side or rear). Check for debris, iron sludge, or scale preventing full movement.
- Clean flow control: Locate the brine refill flow control orifice. Remove and flush under running water. Use a soft brush; do not enlarge the orifice.
- Solenoid test (if equipped): If your Pentair model uses an external brine solenoid, apply 24V (or rated voltage) briefly to the coil and listen for a click. No click indicates a failed solenoid coil.
- Check board output: In diagnostic mode, command a brine fill and measure voltage at the solenoid terminals. If no voltage is present while the board calls for fill, the control board output is likely defective.
- Replace parts: Replace a stuck or leaking Pentair brine valve assembly or brine solenoid valve as needed. If outputs are dead, replace the Pentair electronic control board.
- Test regeneration: Reassemble, restore water and power, and run a manual regeneration to confirm proper brine fill and draw.
