Possible Causes
Salt level below sensor, Salt bridge causing false low reading, Misadjusted brine float assembly, Faulty salt level sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No electrical hazard if you only work with the brine tank, but avoid lifting heavy salt bags improperly.
- Verify salt level: Open the brine tank lid and visually confirm the actual salt level. Add solar salt or pellet salt to at least halfway up the tank if low.
- Check for salt bridge: Use a broom handle to gently push down into the salt. If you feel a hollow space beneath a hard crust, break up the bridge so salt falls into the water below.
- Inspect float: Ensure the brine float assembly moves freely up and down and is not stuck in a high position that could mislead the sensor.
- Sensor check: If your Pentair model uses an electronic salt sensor, clean it and ensure it is properly positioned at the correct height per the installation manual.
- Clear warning: After correcting the salt level, the LOW SALT message should clear automatically after the next regeneration or after a sensor check cycle.
