Possible Causes
Drive motor energized but jammed, Motor gear binding, Control board stuck output, Motor mounting misalignment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing the control head cover.
- Listen and locate: With the cover off (and power briefly applied), identify the source of the hum as the drive motor.
- Check for motion: If the motor hums but the cam does not turn, disconnect power and inspect for mechanical binding in the cam/gear and rotor.
- Free the mechanism: Remove debris and ensure gears are properly seated. Lubrication is generally not required; follow Pentair guidelines.
- Replace motor: If the motor still hums without turning under no load, replace the Pentair control valve drive motor.
- Board check: If the motor remains energized continuously, even when the unit should be idle, the control board relay may be stuck and the Pentair electronic control board should be replaced.
