Possible Causes
High inlet pressure, Fast-closing Pentair valve without hammer arrestor, Loose plumbing supports, Undersized drain line causing surging
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal electrical work is required; ensure plumbing work is done with water off and pressure relieved.
- Check pressure: Measure house water pressure. If above 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure reducing valve.
- Secure piping: Add or tighten pipe clamps and supports near the softener to reduce movement.
- Install hammer arrestor: Add a water hammer arrestor on the softener inlet line if banging occurs when the valve shifts cycles.
- Drain line sizing: Ensure the drain line is the correct diameter and not excessively long or restricted, which can cause surging.
