Possible Causes
Worn piston seals, Cracked valve body, Debris preventing full seal closure, Misaligned piston
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass the unit and depressurize before opening the valve.
- 1. Confirm leakage: Test hardness of water at the softener outlet and at the inlet. If both are similar despite recent regeneration, internal bypassing is likely.
- 2. Inspect valve body: Remove the control valve from the tank. Look for cracks or warping in the valve body.
- 3. Replace seals and spacers: Disassemble the piston and seal stack. Install a new RainSoft seal and spacer kit, lubricating with food-grade silicone grease.
- 4. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the valve, regenerate, and retest hardness.
Note: If the valve body is cracked, the entire control valve assembly must be replaced.
