E6
RainSoft
Metered Regeneration Logic Fault
E6 displayed, unit regenerates at incorrect intervals or not at all based on usage

Possible Causes
Incorrect hardness or capacity programming, Faulty flow meter pulses, Control board metering circuit failure, Software configuration error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal high-voltage work is required for basic checks, but unplug the unit before removing the cover.
- 1. Verify programming: Enter the programming mode and confirm the hardness, capacity, and reserve settings match your RainSoft model and local water hardness. Correct any obvious errors.
- 2. Check flow meter operation: With the cover on, run water and verify that the display shows flow and that the remaining capacity decreases. If not, troubleshoot the flow meter (see E5).
- 3. Reset controller: Perform a factory reset if available in the installer menu, then re-enter all parameters.
- 4. Observe regeneration trigger: Over a day or two, monitor whether the unit regenerates when capacity reaches zero. If E6 recurs and metering appears correct, the control board's metering logic may be faulty.
Resolution: If reprogramming and meter repair do not resolve E6, replace the RainSoft control board with the correct part number.
