Possible Causes
Clogged venturi/ejector, Air leak in brine line, Blocked drain line, Fouled injector screen
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass the softener and relieve pressure before opening the valve body.
- 1. Inspect drain line: Ensure the drain line is not kinked, frozen, or blocked. A blocked drain prevents proper brine draw.
- 2. Clean venturi/ejector: Remove the venturi/ejector assembly from the RainSoft control valve (usually under a cap with screws). Disassemble and clean all parts, including the nozzle and throat, in vinegar. Remove iron sludge and scale.
- 3. Check injector screen: Clean or replace the small screen that protects the injector from debris.
- 4. Inspect brine line and fittings: Check for loose connections that could allow air to enter, preventing vacuum. Tighten hose clamps and replace cracked tubing.
- 5. Test brine draw: With the unit in brine draw, place the brine line into a bucket of water. If water is not drawn steadily, the injector or drain path is still restricted.
Resolution: After cleaning and reassembly, clear the E8 code by cycling power and initiating a manual regeneration to confirm proper operation.
