Possible Causes
Stuck brine fill valve, Defective brine safety float, Plugged brine line causing slow shutoff, Control board overfilling due to timing error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately place the softener in bypass and unplug it to stop water flow. Mop up any spilled brine to prevent corrosion.
- 1. Inspect brine safety float: Open the brine tank and locate the safety float assembly. Ensure it moves freely up and down. Clean any salt crust or debris that may be jamming it.
- 2. Check for continuous water flow: With the unit unplugged and in bypass, observe whether water continues to enter the brine tank. If so, the brine fill valve is stuck open and must be replaced.
- 3. Clean brine well: Remove the float assembly and clean the brine well tube of sludge and salt bridges that can interfere with float operation.
- 4. Verify refill timing: After repairs, restore power and observe a regeneration. Time the brine refill stage and compare to the programmed value. If the control is overfilling beyond the set time, the board may be faulty.
Important: Do not bypass or disable the brine safety float. It is a critical overflow protection device.
