Possible Causes
Jammed piston, Stripped cam gear, Motor failure, Debris in valve body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately place the unit in bypass to stop water waste. Unplug the unit before opening the control head.
- 1. Inspect motor and cam: Remove the control cover and check if the cam is in a regeneration position and not moving.
- 2. Check for mechanical binding: With pressure relieved, attempt to manually rotate the cam (if design allows). If it will not move, the piston may be jammed.
- 3. Disassemble valve: Follow the RainSoft service manual to remove the piston and seal stack. Clean all parts and remove any debris.
- 4. Replace worn parts: Install a new piston and seal kit if components are worn or scored.
- 5. Test operation: Reassemble, restore power, and run a manual regeneration to ensure the valve cycles through all positions.
