Display shows E01 and softener will not start a regeneration cycle
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the electrical supply to the Scalemaster softener and close the inlet and outlet isolation valves before disconnecting any pipework. Depressurise by opening a nearby tap.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Verify mains water supply: Ensure the property has water. Open a cold tap at the kitchen sink and confirm strong flow. If not, resolve the house supply issue first.
- 2. Check inlet isolation valve: Locate the softener's inlet valve (usually marked "IN" or with an arrow). Confirm it is fully open (handle in line with the pipe). If it was closed, open it and restore power to see if E01 clears.
- 3. Inspect inlet hose and pipework: Look for kinks, crushed flexible hoses, or recently installed valves that may be restricting flow. Straighten or replace any damaged hoses.
- 4. Clean inlet strainer: Many Scalemaster control valves have a small mesh strainer at the inlet. Isolate the softener, relieve pressure, then remove the inlet union. Carefully pull out the mesh strainer, rinse under running water, and remove debris. Refit and check for leaks.
- 5. Check mains pressure (if possible): If you have a pressure gauge, confirm that static pressure meets Scalemaster’s minimum requirement (typically around 1.5–2.0 bar). Low pressure may require a booster set or plumber intervention.
If E01 persists after confirming good flow and a clean strainer, the internal flow sensor or control valve body may be faulty and a professional technician or Scalemaster service agent should be contacted.
