Scalemaster
Over-Regeneration / Incorrect Capacity Setting
Softener uses excessive salt and regenerates very frequently
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Hardness setting programmed too high, Capacity set too low on Scalemaster controller, Flow meter misreading usage, Internal leak causing constant flow through meter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No special hazards, but avoid altering advanced settings without the manual.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Confirm actual hardness: Test raw water hardness and compare with the programmed value. Adjust to the correct level.
- 2. Check capacity setting: Ensure the resin capacity (litres or m³ between regenerations) matches the model specification.
- 3. Look for continuous flow: With all taps closed, check the softener display for flow. If flow is indicated, there may be a leak in the house or a running toilet causing unnecessary regenerations.
If settings are correct and salt use remains excessive, the flow meter or control board may require service.
