Control head display shows E01 and softener will not start a regeneration cycle.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the SpringWell softener (unplug the power supply) and close the bypass valves to isolate the unit from household water pressure before opening any plumbing connections.
Steps to troubleshoot E01 (Inlet Flow Sensor Failure):
- 1. Verify water flow: Open a nearby faucet and confirm that water is actually flowing through the softener when it is in service mode. If no flow, check the SpringWell bypass valve position and main shutoff valves.
- 2. Inspect the flow sensor cable: Remove the control head cover. Locate the small 2- or 3-wire harness from the turbine/flow sensor assembly to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
- 3. Clean the turbine: Shut off water, relieve pressure by opening a faucet, then remove the meter housing or flow sensor assembly (usually on the outlet side of the SpringWell control head). Check for sand, resin beads, or scale blocking the turbine. Rinse with clean water and spin the turbine by hand; it should move freely.
- 4. Reset the control: Reassemble, restore water and power, then perform a control reset according to the SpringWell manual (typically holding the program or regen button for several seconds). Run water at a faucet and see if the flow rate now registers.
- 5. Replace the flow sensor: If the turbine spins freely and wiring is intact but E01 persists, the flow sensor is likely defective. Replace the SpringWell flow meter / turbine sensor assembly compatible with your model. If a new sensor does not resolve the error, the control board input may be faulty and the head may need replacement.
