Display shows E03 and the softener is stuck in regeneration or will not move to the next cycle step.

Safety: Unplug the power supply before working on the control head. Place the softener in bypass to relieve pressure on the valve.

Steps to troubleshoot E03 (Motor or Drive Fault):

• 1. Listen for motor operation: Plug the unit back in and manually initiate a regeneration. Listen for the motor attempting to run. A humming or no sound at all can indicate a failed motor.
• 2. Inspect the drive assembly: Remove the control head cover. Observe the motor, drive gears, and cam/rotor while initiating a regen. If the motor turns but the cam does not move, a gear or yoke may be stripped or broken.
• 3. Check for mechanical binding: With power off and water bypassed, gently try to rotate the cam or rotor by hand (if accessible). Excessive resistance suggests internal valve binding from debris or resin fouling.
• 4. Clean or rebuild valve: If binding is suspected, remove the control head from the mineral tank following SpringWell instructions. Inspect the rotor/disc or piston and seals for scoring, resin buildup, or foreign objects. Clean components and replace worn seals or the SpringWell rotor/disc kit as needed.
• 5. Replace motor: If the valve turns freely by hand but the motor does not run or stalls, replace the SpringWell control valve drive motor. If a new motor does not resolve E03, the control board is likely defective and the head may need replacement.
