Possible Causes
Incorrect regeneration mode or time settings, Defective keypad or buttons on control head, Faulty internal clock circuit, Control board firmware error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing the control cover. No plumbing disassembly is required for this fault.
Steps to troubleshoot E05 (Regeneration Initiation Fault):
- 1. Verify programming: Enter the programming menu and confirm the regeneration mode (metered vs. time clock), hardness setting, capacity, and regeneration time are correctly set per SpringWell specifications and your water usage.
- 2. Test manual regen: Attempt to start a manual regeneration using the REGEN or manual button. If the button does not respond, the keypad may be faulty.
- 3. Check keypad function: Press each button and confirm the display responds. If some buttons are unresponsive or intermittent, the keypad membrane or control board is failing.
- 4. Power cycle and reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in and reprogram. Monitor whether the unit initiates a regen at the next scheduled time.
- 5. Replace control head: If the clock does not keep time or the unit still fails to start regeneration automatically or manually, replace the SpringWell electronic control head.
