Possible Causes
Drain line restriction causing backpressure, Mis-sized or clogged drain flow control, Worn or damaged piston/seals in SpringWell control valve, Incorrect cycle programming for tank size
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Put the softener in bypass and unplug it before disconnecting the drain line. Be prepared for water discharge.
Steps to address E08 (Excessive Drain Flow / Drain Fault):
- 1. Inspect drain line: Follow the drain hose from the control head to its termination. Ensure it is not kinked, elevated too high, or submerged in standing water. Clear any obstructions.
- 2. Check drain flow control (DLFC): Locate the DLFC button or insert at the drain port of the SpringWell valve. Remove and inspect for debris. Clean and reinstall, ensuring the correct size for your tank is used.
- 3. Verify cycle settings: In the programming menu, confirm that backwash and rinse times are appropriate for the resin tank size and media type recommended by SpringWell.
- 4. Inspect piston and seals: If water continues to flow heavily to drain even in service mode, the internal piston or seals may be damaged. Remove the control head and rebuild it using a SpringWell piston and seal kit.
- 5. Replace control head if needed: If a rebuild does not correct the fault, replace the SpringWell control valve head.
