Possible Causes
Stuck brine refill valve in SpringWell control head, Blocked brine line preventing draw, Stuck or failed brine safety float, Leaking check valve in brine line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Wear gloves and eye protection. Be prepared to remove excess brine.
Steps to address E16 (Brine Tank Overfill):
- 1. Stop water to brine tank: Ensure the softener is in bypass so no additional water enters the system.
- 2. Remove excess brine: Use a wet/dry vacuum or a small pump to remove excess water from the brine tank until the level is below the safety float.
- 3. Inspect safety float: Remove the brine well cover and check that the float moves freely. Clean any salt buildup and verify the float shuts off flow when raised.
- 4. Check brine line and injector: Clean the injector/venturi and ensure the brine line is not blocked so that brine can be drawn out during regeneration.
- 5. Inspect brine refill valve: If water continues to enter the brine tank when it should not, the internal brine refill valve or piston is leaking. Rebuild the valve with a SpringWell brine valve / piston kit or replace the control head.
