Possible Causes

Continuous low flow detected by SpringWell flow meter, Dripping faucet or running toilet downstream, Internal valve not sealing fully, Leak in plumbing after softener

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No immediate disassembly is required. Do not ignore potential leaks, as they can cause water damage.

Steps to address E18 (Unexpected Flow / Leak Detection):

  • 1. Check for running fixtures: Ensure all faucets, toilets, and appliances are off. Listen for running water in the home.
  • 2. Observe flow reading: With everything off, check the flow rate on the SpringWell display. Any non-zero reading suggests a leak or internal bypass.
  • 3. Isolate the softener: Place the softener in bypass. If the flow reading drops to zero, the leak is likely in the plumbing after the softener. If it continues, the valve may be leaking internally.
  • 4. Inspect valve seals: If internal leakage is suspected, rebuild the valve with a SpringWell piston and seal kit to restore proper sealing.
  • 5. Fix downstream leaks: If the leak is in household plumbing, locate and repair the leaking fixture or pipe. Once resolved, clear the E18 error on the control panel.
