Possible Causes
Bacteria in plumbing or resin bed, Stagnant water in softener, High sulfur content in source water, Infrequent regeneration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Use appropriate disinfectants and follow SpringWell guidelines. Do not mix chemicals.
Steps to remove sulfur odor:
- 1. Shock chlorinate plumbing: Follow SpringWell or local health department procedures to disinfect the well and plumbing system with chlorine.
- 2. Sanitize softener: Use a manufacturer-approved sanitizer in the brine tank and run a manual regeneration to disinfect the resin bed.
- 3. Increase regeneration frequency: Adjust settings so the softener regenerates more often, reducing stagnation.
- 4. Add pre-treatment: If sulfur levels are high, install a dedicated sulfur filter ahead of the SpringWell softener.
