Possible Causes
Hardness setting programmed too high, Meter not counting flow correctly, Incorrect capacity or reserve settings, Internal valve leak causing false usage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No disassembly is required for initial checks.
Steps to reduce excessive salt use:
- 1. Verify actual hardness: Test your raw water hardness with a test kit or lab report. Adjust the hardness setting on the SpringWell controller to match.
- 2. Check capacity and reserve: Ensure the programmed capacity and reserve are appropriate for your resin volume and household usage per SpringWell guidelines.
- 3. Confirm meter accuracy: Compare the usage reported by the softener to your water meter or estimated household use. If the softener shows much higher usage, inspect and clean the SpringWell flow meter / turbine sensor.
- 4. Inspect for internal leaks: If water flows to drain or bypass when it should not, rebuild the valve with a SpringWell piston and seal kit to prevent false meter readings.
