Possible Causes
Clogged inlet screen, Fouled resin bed, Undersized plumbing or bypass, Partially closed bypass or shutoff valves
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass the softener if pressure is critically low to restore household water while troubleshooting.
Steps to restore normal pressure:
- 1. Compare in-service vs. bypass: If pressure improves significantly in bypass, the restriction is within the softener.
- 2. Clean inlet screen: Remove and clean the SpringWell inlet screen to remove sediment.
- 3. Check valves: Ensure the bypass and any isolation valves are fully open and correctly positioned.
- 4. Backwash resin: Run a manual regeneration to backwash and fluff the resin bed. If pressure improves temporarily, the resin may be fouled and require cleaning or replacement.
- 5. Replace resin or upsize system: If pressure drop persists, replace the SpringWell cation resin media and verify the system is properly sized for your flow demands.
