Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, Stuck in defrost due to failed defrost sensor, Control board defrost logic error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: On some Avanti models, dF simply indicates that the automatic defrost cycle is active and is not a fault.

  • Observe duration: If dF appears briefly (15–30 minutes) and then the unit resumes normal cooling, this is likely normal operation.
  • Check for cooling after dF: After the dF indication clears, verify that the compressor or Peltier module and fans resume operation and that the cabinet cools.
  • Persistent dF: If dF remains on the display for hours and the unit does not cool, unplug the cooler and allow it to fully defrost. Then inspect the defrost thermistor and heater for faults as described in the E4 entry.
  • Control board replacement: If defrost components test good but the unit remains stuck in defrost, the main control board defrost logic may be faulty and require replacement.
