Possible Causes

Defective ambient thermistor, Sensor wire damaged near front grille or control panel, Loose connector at display/control board, Failed control board input channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any trim or control panels.

  • Locate the ambient sensor: On many Avanti wine coolers, the ambient thermistor is located near the front grille, behind the kick plate, or integrated near the control panel to sense room temperature.
  • Clean and inspect: Dust and debris can accumulate around the sensor. Gently vacuum or brush the area. Check the sensor body and wiring for damage or disconnection.
  • Check connections: Remove the control panel or front grille to access the sensor connector. Ensure it is fully seated on the control board and not corroded.
  • Test with a multimeter: With power disconnected, measure resistance across the sensor leads. Compare to expected NTC values (similar to cabinet thermistor). A reading of 0 ohms or infinite resistance indicates a failed sensor.
  • Replace if needed: Install an OEM Avanti ambient thermistor. Route the wire away from hot components and secure it to prevent vibration damage.
  • Reassemble and test: Restore power and verify that the E3 code clears and that the displayed temperature responds reasonably to room temperature changes.
