Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler. The compressor and start components can be hot; allow them to cool before handling.
Steps to diagnose and fix:
- Check ventilation: Ensure the cooler has proper clearance around the sides and back as specified by BODEGA. Overheating can trigger overload protection and E5.
- Inspect power supply: Plug the unit into a dedicated outlet. Avoid extension cords or power strips. Use a multimeter to confirm 110–120 VAC at the outlet.
- Access compressor components: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
- Inspect start relay and overload: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the relay and overload for burn marks, rattling (loose internal parts), or melted plastic.
- Test and replace: If the relay rattles when shaken or shows signs of burning, replace it with a compatible BODEGA compressor start relay and overload kit. Reconnect wires exactly as originally installed.
- Monitor operation: Restore power and observe. If the compressor still fails to start and E5 returns, the compressor itself may be faulty.
When to call a professional: Compressor replacement requires specialized tools and refrigerant handling certification; contact a professional technician.
