Possible Causes
Blocked condenser causing overheating, Failed condenser fan motor, Defective compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty overload protector on compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. The compressor and condenser can be very hot.
- Check ventilation: Ensure at least the manufacturer-recommended clearance around the wine cooler. Remove any obstructions from the rear and sides.
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel to access the condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint.
- Inspect condenser fan: Confirm the fan spins freely by hand and is not obstructed. If the fan does not run when the unit is powered (and compressor is trying to run), the "Condenser fan motor" may be faulty.
- Check compressor start components: With power disconnected, remove the start relay and overload from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it. Test continuity of the overload protector.
- Allow cooling: Let the compressor cool for 30–60 minutes, then reconnect power. If E5 returns quickly, suspect a failing compressor or control board.
- Replace parts as needed: Fit a new "Compressor start relay/PTC" or "Overload protector" if defective. If the compressor itself is overheating and drawing excessive current, contact a professional for compressor replacement.
