Possible Causes

Open or shorted upper cabinet NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Loose sensor connector at main PCB, Sensor probe pulled out of its sleeve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

Diagnosis steps:

  • Confirm symptom: Compare the displayed temperature with an accurate thermometer placed on the upper shelf. If the reading is far off or shows E1, suspect the sensor.
  • Locate upper sensor: Inside the upper zone, look for a small plastic cover or grommet on the rear or side wall. This usually hides the NTC temperature sensor.
  • Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the cover gently. Check that the sensor probe is intact and not broken or hanging loose. Follow the thin sensor wires to where they exit the liner; ensure they are not cut or pinched.
  • Check connections at PCB: Remove the rear service panel and locate the main control board. Identify the connector labeled for the upper sensor (often marked "NTC1" or similar). Reseat the connector and ensure no pins are bent.
  • Basic resistance check (optional): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the board and measure resistance across the sensor leads with a multimeter. A typical NTC sensor will read between 5–50 kΩ depending on temperature. An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.

Corrective action: If the sensor is open/shorted or physically damaged, replace the upper compartment temperature sensor with a compatible Cavin NTC probe. Route the new sensor along the original path and ensure the grommet is sealed to prevent condensation.
