E5 error code and the unit does not cool or cycles off quickly
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before accessing the evaporator area.
Steps:
- Access evaporator: Remove shelves and the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator coil and attached sensors.
- Locate defrost sensor: Look for a small clip-on sensor or thermostat attached to the evaporator tubing, often wrapped in foil or insulation.
- Inspect wiring: Check for broken, brittle, or corroded wires leading from the sensor to the cabinet pass-through. Gently tug each wire to ensure it is secure.
- Check connectors: At the rear of the unit, access the main PCB and locate the defrost sensor connector. Reseat it and inspect for moisture or corrosion.
- Test continuity: With the unit unplugged and the evaporator at a cold temperature (if possible), measure continuity across the defrost thermostat or resistance of the defrost sensor. An open circuit when it should be closed (or vice versa) indicates a faulty component.
Repair: Replace the defrost sensor or thermostat with the correct Cavin part if testing shows it is defective. Reattach it firmly to the evaporator tubing in the same position to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
