Possible Causes
Failed defrost sensor (NTC), Open defrost heater, Defective defrost thermal fuse or thermostat, Main control board defrost relay failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the CELLA wine cooler. Allow any ice buildup to melt before working near the evaporator to avoid damage.
- Inspect for heavy frost: Remove the interior rear panel and check the evaporator. A solid block of ice indicates a defrost system problem.
- Locate defrost components: Identify the defrost sensor (often clipped to the evaporator tubing), the defrost heater (a tube or wire element at the bottom or around the evaporator), and any thermal fuse/thermostat in series.
- Test the defrost sensor: Disconnect the defrost sensor and measure resistance. Compare to CELLA's NTC chart. Replace the CELLA defrost sensor if open, shorted, or out of spec.
- Check heater continuity: With the unit unplugged, test the defrost heater for continuity. An open circuit means the CELLA defrost heater must be replaced.
- Check thermal fuse/thermostat: Test any inline thermal fuse or defrost thermostat for continuity at room temperature (or when cold, per spec). Replace if open.
- Control board: If all components test good, the defrost relay or control logic on the CELLA main control board may be faulty and require replacement.
