Possible Causes
Normal automatic defrost cycle, Extended defrost due to heavy frost, Faulty defrost sensor causing prolonged defrost
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No immediate disassembly is required for a normal dF indication. If you proceed to inspect components, unplug the unit first.
Steps:
- Determine if behavior is normal: Many EdgeStar wine coolers briefly display dF during automatic defrost. This is not an error if it clears within 20–30 minutes and cooling resumes.
- Check for excessive frost: If dF remains for hours and the interior warms significantly, remove shelves and inspect the evaporator area for heavy ice buildup.
- Manual defrost: Unplug the unit and allow all ice to melt. Dry the interior thoroughly.
- Inspect defrost components: If heavy frost returns quickly, test the defrost heater and defrost thermistor as described in the E4 procedure and replace faulty parts.
Note: If dF appears only occasionally and the unit maintains proper temperature, no repair is needed.
