Display shows E6 and the interior fan may not run, or the unit may overcool or have uneven temperatures.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the interior fan. Fan blades can be sharp; avoid spinning them by hand when powered.
Steps to resolve E6:
- Listen for the fan: With the door closed and unit running (before unplugging), listen for the evaporator fan behind the interior rear panel. If silent, proceed with inspection.
- Access the fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Look for ice buildup around the fan, loose wires, or insulation blocking the blades. Clear any obstructions and ensure the fan spins freely by hand.
- Inspect wiring: Verify the fan motor connector is firmly attached and that wires are not damaged or pinched.
- Test the fan motor: With the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the fan motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. If you have a suitable low-voltage DC source (for DC fans), you can bench-test the motor briefly.
- Replace the fan motor if defective: Install a new EdgeStar-compatible evaporator fan motor and reattach the fan blade if separate. Ensure correct airflow direction (usually blowing across the evaporator toward the cabinet).
- If fan is good: The control board may not be supplying power or reading fan feedback correctly. Inspect and replace the main control board if necessary.
After repair: Reassemble the interior panel, restore power, and confirm that the fan runs during cooling cycles and that the E6 code clears.
