Possible Causes
Failed cabinet thermistor, Thermistor harness loose or unplugged from main control board, Damaged thermistor wiring, Faulty main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the wine cooler or switch off the circuit breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live electrical parts.
- Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to see if the E1 code clears. If it returns, continue.
- Access the thermistor: Remove the interior shelves. Locate the cabinet temperature sensor (usually a small probe or plastic-covered sensor on the rear or side wall inside the compartment). On some GE Profile models it routes through the rear liner to the main control board.
- Check connection: Gently pull the interior sensor cover (if present) and verify the sensor wires are intact and firmly connected. At the back of the unit, remove the rear service panel and confirm the thermistor harness is fully seated on the main control board connector.
- Inspect wiring: Look for pinched, cut, or corroded wires between the sensor and the control board. Repair any damaged wiring with proper crimp connectors and heat‑shrink tubing.
- Test the thermistor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor from the board and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to GE’s temperature/resistance chart (commonly ~10kΩ at 77°F/25°C). If it reads open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the thermistor.
- Replace parts as needed: If the thermistor tests bad, install a new GE‑compatible cabinet thermistor and reconnect. If the thermistor and wiring are good but E1 persists, the main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
