Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor, Ambient sensor harness disconnected from control board, Damaged sensor wiring near front grille, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing any kick plates or control panels.
- Locate ambient sensor: On many GE Profile wine coolers, the ambient sensor is near the front grille or behind the control panel, sensing room temperature for compensation.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the lower front grille or control panel trim. Look for a small sensor probe or plastic housing with two wires leading to the main control board. Check for loose connectors or damaged insulation.
- Reconnect harness: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on the control board. Clean any corrosion from terminals with electrical contact cleaner.
- Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to GE’s ambient thermistor spec. Replace if open, shorted, or out of range.
- Reassemble and test: After replacing or reseating the sensor, restore power and verify that the E3 code clears and temperature control responds normally.
- Board replacement: If the sensor and wiring are confirmed good but E3 persists, replace the main control board.
