Possible Causes
Failed compressor relay on main control board, Burnt relay contacts from frequent cycling, Damaged PCB traces to compressor output, Shorted compressor drawing excessive current
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before working near the compressor or control board. High voltage is present in this area.
- Access control board: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the main control board and compressor wiring.
- Inspect relay area: Look for a small cube or rectangular relay on the board labeled for compressor or COMP. Check for burn marks or melted plastic.
- Check wiring to compressor: Ensure the harness from the board to the compressor start device is secure and not burnt.
- Compressor test (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the start relay/overload from the compressor and test compressor winding resistance between terminals (C‑R, C‑S, R‑S). If windings are shorted or open, the compressor is likely failed and requires professional replacement.
- Board replacement: If the compressor tests good but the relay is visibly damaged or does not click when the unit should start, replace the main control board. Use the exact GE replacement part number.
