Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness due to ice or rubbing on fan, Faulty sensor input on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the appliance before removing any interior panels. Beware of sharp metal edges around the evaporator compartment.

  • Access the evaporator area: Remove interior shelves and the rear inner panel (evaporator cover). You may need to remove a few screws and gently unclip the panel.
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: It is usually clipped directly to the evaporator coil or inserted into a small well on the evaporator plate with two wires leading back to the PCB.
  • Check for ice buildup: Heavy ice can pull or break the sensor wires. Carefully defrost with the unit unplugged by leaving the door open and using towels; do not use sharp tools or heat guns.
  • Inspect wiring and connector: Look for broken insulation, corroded pins, or a loose clip. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and PCB ends.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected NTC curve (typically 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). Replace the sensor if reading is open, shorted, or far out of range.
  • Reattach sensor correctly: Ensure the new or existing sensor is firmly clipped to the evaporator in the original position for accurate readings.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the evaporator cover, restore power, and verify that E2 clears and that the unit cycles normally.
