Possible Causes

Overheated compressor due to poor ventilation, Faulty compressor start relay or PTC, Defective compressor winding, Blocked condenser coil or failed condenser fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing the rear service area. The compressor and condenser can be very hot.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the wine cooler has the required clearance around sides, back, and top as specified by Gorenje. Remove any obstructions blocking airflow.
  • Clean condenser: Remove the rear lower panel to access the condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint. Do not bend the fins.
  • Inspect condenser fan (if fitted): Spin the fan by hand with power off. It should rotate freely. If seized or noisy, replace the condenser fan motor.
  • Check compressor start device: Remove the start relay/PTC from the compressor terminals. Inspect for burn marks or rattling pieces inside. Test with a multimeter according to the part specification; replace if suspect.
  • Allow compressor to cool: If the compressor is extremely hot, leave the unit unplugged for at least 30–60 minutes to reset the thermal protector.
  • Test operation: Refit the start device, restore power, and listen for the compressor starting smoothly. If E5 returns and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor itself may be failing and will require a professional sealed-system repair.
