Possible Causes
Failed compressor relay on main PCB, Burnt relay contacts from high current, Broken output trace on PCB, Loose compressor output connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the wine cooler. High voltage is present on the control board.
- Confirm compressor is functional: If previously tested or replaced, assume compressor is good and focus on control output.
- Inspect main board: Look for a relay labeled for the compressor. Check for burn marks or cracked solder joints around it.
- Reseat output connectors: Ensure the harness from the board to the compressor start device is firmly connected.
- Check for loose solder: For advanced DIYers, inspect the underside of the PCB for cracked solder joints at the relay pins and reflow if skilled and safe to do so.
- Replace main control board: If the relay is visibly damaged or E16 persists, install a new Hotpoint control board.
- Do not bypass safety circuits: Never hard-wire the compressor to run continuously; this is unsafe and can cause fire or compressor damage.
