Possible Causes

Failed condenser fan motor, Blocked fan blades, Damaged fan tachometer wire, Faulty fan speed sensing circuit on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working near the rear fan.

  • Access condenser fan: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the condenser coil and fan assembly.
  • Inspect fan: Check for dust buildup, debris, or bent blades. Clean thoroughly and straighten blades if needed.
  • Spin test: Rotate the fan by hand. It should move freely. If stiff or noisy, replace the motor.
  • Check wiring: Ensure all fan wires, including any feedback/tachometer wire, are intact and firmly connected to the board.
  • Replace condenser fan motor: Install a Hotpoint-compatible fan motor. Secure it firmly and ensure it does not contact the shroud.
  • If E17 persists: The control board may not be reading the fan speed correctly and may need replacement.
