Wine cooler shows E2 and may run continuously or shut off erratically

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before accessing internal components. Sharp metal edges are present around the evaporator area.

• Defrost the unit: If there is heavy frost, leave the door open and unplugged for several hours to melt ice. Place towels to catch water.
• Access the evaporator compartment: Remove the internal rear panel inside the cooler to expose the evaporator coil and sensor (a small probe clipped to or near the coil).
• Inspect the sensor: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator and not hanging loose. Check for cracked insulation or broken wires.
• Check wiring to the control board: Trace the sensor wires to the top or rear where the main PCB is located. Look for pinched or rubbed-through insulation, especially where wires pass through foam or metal.
• Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the board and measure resistance. Compare to Hotpoint’s NTC chart. Replace if open, shorted, or out of range.
• Replace the evaporator sensor: Install a genuine Hotpoint evaporator NTC sensor. Clip it securely to the coil in the same position as the original to ensure accurate defrost control.
• If E2 remains after sensor replacement: The main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement by a technician.
