Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor, Loose connection between ambient sensor and PCB, Sensor displaced from correct mounting location, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power before removing any covers.
- Identify ambient sensor: On many Hotpoint wine coolers, the ambient sensor is located near the front grille, control panel, or air intake, often behind a small vent.
- Visual inspection: Check that the sensor is not broken, cut, or hanging loose. Ensure it is not touching hot components like the compressor discharge line.
- Check wiring and connectors: Follow the sensor wires to the main control board. Reseat the connector and inspect for corrosion or bent pins.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to the manufacturer’s NTC chart at room temperature (~20–25°C). Replace if readings are abnormal.
- Replace ambient sensor: Install a Hotpoint-compatible ambient NTC sensor, routing the wires away from moving or hot parts. Secure it in the original location.
- If E3 persists: The control board’s sensor input may be defective. Consider professional diagnosis and possible PCB replacement.
