Possible Causes

Burned out evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose or damaged fan wiring, Faulty fan driver circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working near moving fan blades.

  • Listen for fan operation: After plugging in (briefly), close the door switch manually and listen for the evaporator fan. If silent or noisy, unplug again and proceed.
  • Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • Check for ice or obstructions: Clear any ice buildup or foreign objects blocking the fan. If there is heavy frost, fully defrost the unit.
  • Inspect fan blades and motor: Spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. Replace the motor if seized or very stiff.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the fan connector is firmly seated on the harness and at the control board. Look for burnt or broken wires.
  • Test fan motor: With the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the fan motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Replace evaporator fan motor: Install a Hotpoint-specific fan motor, transferring the fan blade if necessary. Secure all screws and ensure the fan is centered in the shroud.
  • If E6 persists with a new fan: The main control board may not be supplying power to the fan and may need replacement by a technician.
