Possible Causes

Defective magnetic reed door switch, Misaligned door magnet, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty door input circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the wine cooler before removing trims or panels.

  • Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructing. A partially open door can mimic a switch fault.
  • Locate the door switch: On many Hotpoint wine coolers, the switch is a small plunger or hidden magnetic reed switch near the frame.
  • Test the switch: If it is a plunger type, press it in and out and listen for a click. For a magnetic type, place a magnet near the sensor area and see if the interior light responds (with power briefly applied).
  • Inspect wiring: Remove the inner trim to access the switch wiring. Look for loose connectors or damaged insulation.
  • Replace faulty switch: Install a genuine Hotpoint door switch or reed sensor. Ensure the door magnet (if used) is correctly positioned to align with the sensor.
  • Reset power: After replacement, unplug for 2 minutes, then reconnect and verify that E7 clears and cooling resumes.
  • If the error remains: The main control board may not be detecting the door signal correctly and may require professional replacement.
