Possible Causes
Prolonged door open, Blocked rear condenser ventilation, Failed condenser fan motor, Refrigerant leak or weak compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Always unplug the appliance before removing rear panels.
- Check door and loading: Ensure the door seals properly and is not being held open by bottles. Avoid overloading so air can circulate.
- Verify ambient conditions: Hotpoint wine coolers are designed for specific room temperature ranges. Move the unit away from direct sunlight, ovens, or radiators.
- Inspect condenser area: Remove the rear lower panel. Clean dust from the condenser coil with a soft brush and vacuum. Ensure there is at least the manufacturer’s recommended clearance around the back.
- Check condenser fan: Confirm the rear fan runs when the compressor is on. If not spinning or noisy, unplug and inspect for obstructions, then test and replace the fan motor if necessary.
- Reset alarm: After improving ventilation and ensuring the door is closed, unplug for 5 minutes, then reconnect. Allow several hours for temperature to recover.
- If E8 returns and cooling is poor: There may be a sealed-system issue (refrigerant leak, weak compressor) which must be diagnosed and repaired by a licensed refrigeration technician.
