Possible Causes
Loose or damaged communication harness, Corroded connectors between UI and main board, Failed display/control panel, Failed main control board communication circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or rear access panels.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect the display panel: Check for signs of moisture intrusion or physical damage around the front control panel and buttons.
- 2. Access wiring harness: Remove the front control panel (usually held by screws from inside the door frame) or the rear access panel to reach the cable that connects the display board to the main control board.
- 3. Check connectors: Ensure the ribbon cable or multi-wire harness is fully seated at both ends. Look for bent pins, corrosion, or broken wires.
- 4. Reseat and clean: Gently unplug and replug the connectors. If there is light corrosion, clean contacts with electronic contact cleaner and allow to dry completely.
- 5. Visual inspection of boards: Look for burn marks or cracked solder joints on both the display board and main board. If the display is dead or segments are missing, the display board may be faulty.
- 6. Replace faulty board or harness: If reseating does not resolve E6, replace the display/control panel first (often the more common failure). If the error persists, the main control board or harness may need replacement.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, restore power, and verify that the display responds and that the E6 code is cleared.
Note: Avoid pulling on the wires themselves; always grasp connectors to prevent damage.
