Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor wiring damaged by ice or rubbing on evaporator, Poor connection at control board sensor terminal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from power before removing interior panels or accessing the evaporator area.

Steps:

  • 1. Defrost the unit: If there is heavy ice on the back wall, switch off the cooler and leave the door open for several hours or until all ice has melted. Place towels to catch water.
  • 2. Access the evaporator sensor: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel (usually clipped or screwed). The evaporator sensor is typically clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted near it.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check for broken insulation, cut wires, or a sensor that has come loose from the evaporator. Ensure the sensor is not dangling away from the coil.
  • 4. Electrical test: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. Compare with the cabinet sensor if they are the same type. A reading of open circuit or near zero indicates a failed sensor.
  • 5. Replace the sensor: Install a new Liebherr evaporator NTC sensor, clip it securely to the evaporator tube in the same position, and route the cable away from sharp edges and moving parts.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Refit the rear panel, restore power, clear the error, and monitor operation for 24 hours.

Note: If the sensor and wiring are good but F1 remains, the control board may be misreading the sensor and require professional replacement.
