Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice buildup blocking fan blades, Broken fan wiring or connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing interior panels or touching the fan assembly.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for fan operation: With the door closed and unit powered (before unplugging), you should normally hear a gentle fan noise. If silent, proceed with checks.
- 2. Remove interior rear panel: Unplug the unit, remove shelves, and unscrew or unclip the rear panel to access the fan and evaporator.
- 3. Check for ice obstruction: If the fan blades are encased in ice, defrost the unit completely. This may indicate a separate defrost problem.
- 4. Spin the fan by hand: Ensure the blades rotate freely. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
- 5. Electrical test: Inspect the fan wiring and connector. With the fan disconnected and unit unplugged, measure motor winding resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 6. Replace the fan motor: Install a new Liebherr evaporator fan motor assembly, transfer the fan blade if separate, and reconnect wiring securely.
- 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the panel, restore power, and confirm the fan runs when the compressor is on and the door is closed.
Note: If the fan tests good but F5 persists, the control board output to the fan may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
