Display shows E3; temperature display may be blank or inaccurate; unit may not respond correctly to setpoint changes.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Always unplug the wine cooler before removing covers or handling wiring.
Steps to resolve E3:
- Confirm the code: Verify that E3 appears consistently and not just during power-up. Attempt a power reset by unplugging for 5–10 minutes.
- Locate the ambient sensor: On many NewAir wine coolers, the ambient sensor is mounted near the front grille, side wall, or behind a small vent opening to sense room temperature.
- Inspect the sensor and harness: Look for physical damage, crushed wires, or signs of moisture intrusion. Ensure the sensor is not dangling loose or pulled away from its mounting point.
- Access the control board: Remove the rear or bottom service panel to reach the main control board. Identify the connector for the ambient sensor (refer to wiring labels or color codes if available).
- Check connections: With power disconnected, unplug and re-seat the ambient sensor connector several times to clean the contacts. Inspect for corrosion or bent pins.
- Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to NewAir’s specified resistance curve. A reading of infinite (open) or near zero ohms indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace if defective: Install a new NewAir ambient temperature sensor / thermistor. Mount it in the same location and orientation as the original so it can accurately sense room temperature.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, plug the unit back in, and verify that the E3 code clears and the temperature display behaves normally.
Tip: Avoid placing the cooler in direct sunlight or near heat sources, as extreme ambient conditions can stress sensors and electronics.
